After School Program Term 4

Every picture tells a story

In this series of six workshops, children will create a series of lino cuts. Drawing inspiration from The enchanted forest: new gothic storytellers exhibition, participants will use a combination of text and image to create a themed or picture book approach to making art.

Beat the holiday blues and discover the magic of the colour BLUE. Paint blue, find blue, print blue, wrap yourself in blue! Come along and be inspired by the blue glass installation by Elaine Miles.

Make a felt bag

Dates: Wednesday 24 September
Time: 10.30am to 12.30pm or 2.00pm to 4.00pm
Age: 10 up

Want to have a bag for all occasions - why not learn to make your own in felt? To make a small bag or purse in merino wool in bright and cheery colours we will use a plastic pattern or resist and add some embellishment before felting it into that bag for all occasions. No experience necessary.

Learn to shibori (Japanese) dye silk or felt

Want to learn how to tie, peg, wrap and clamp silk and felt textiles and have something special to take home. Learn simple shibori techniques and use dyes that are easy to work with and very accessible to all. No experience is needed but participants must be prepared to follow all safety procedures.

Print a picture story

Make up your own fairy tale or illustrate your favourite story. Come along and learn some basic printmaking techniques and put your own printed image on a gift card to take home.

With an emphasis on understanding visual language children will learn about expressive techniques used by artists. They will then make monoprints which emphasize line, tone and texture.

Brush up with watercolours

Using pen and ink and water colours, children will explore a range of expressive techniques to make a painting about people and places from memory.

‘HYPE Art' -

HYPE is an arts network facilitated by Shepparton Art Gallery for young emerging artists in the Goulburn Valley. In 2008 HYPE will host a number of free visual arts workshops for members, led by practicing artists who have specialist skills across visual mediums. Hype Workshop 3 - Drawing: figure and head studies

Why not take control and learn how to remodel, revamp and create your own fashion garments at a fraction of the price and express your individuality. Don't miss this exciting opportunity to learn from one of Victoria's most skilful and generous textile artists who specialises in recycling fabric.

Introduction to glass slumping

Date: Tuesday 21 October

This is a great opportunity to learn the basic techniques associated with making slumped glass forms. Participants will design, decorate and produce a functional glass platter that they will be able to use for that special dinner party. Don't miss out as places are strictly limited.

Women Gathering:
Expression through creativity

Dates: Tuesday 12, 19, 26 August 2,9,16 September (six week program)

‘Women Gathering' is an opportunity for women to come together and indulge in a facilitated discovery of a range of visual art mediums. During the six week program, women will explore themes of their choosing and a number of specialised techniques. No prior art making experience is required! This program is an opportunity to meet with other women, discuss ideas and learn some new art making techniques. Book now as places are strictly limited!

Rainbow Kids - art for small hands

Dates: Tuesday 21, 28, October 4, 11, 18, 25 November (six week program)

Age: 3 to 6 years of age

Art for small hands provides an opportunity for very young children from 3-5 years with a parent to join in an hour of creative activities at the Gallery. A range of techniques and materials will be explored throughout the program with participants being guided by an art specialist. Places are limited and prior bookings are required.

Guided tours for school and special interest groups

Guided group tours of the permanent collection and travelling exhibitions are available by booking in advance. We can provide education kits and student activities for most exhibitions as required. Workshops in clay modelling, drawing, basic painting, printmaking and other specialised skills are available upon request for groups of up to fifteen students at a time. There is a small fee for workshops per student. Bookings are essential.

Invitation to all Teachers

The gallery will host a preview of the 2009 exhibition program and provide information about our education programs for primary, secondary and early childhood teachers on Tuesday 16 September at 5.00pm

Come and meet Gallery staff at this informal gathering of teachers from the region. We would also value your feedback on our exhibition and education programs.
RSVP is required by Friday 12 September for catering purposes.

Children's Week 18 - 26 October

To celebrate Children's Week the gallery will be conducting a number of free workshops and gallery tours for pre-school and primary school children up to grade 2.
